Spent a day playing around with dynamic lighting and shadows in the UE4.15 CE Dev Kit.
- Distance Field Shadows (DFS) vs. Cascaded Shadow Maps (CSM)
- DFS can activated in the Projekt Settings Section Rendering
- Unfortunately I couldn’t get DFS to work properly, but I’ll try again
- Sun-, Moonlight Settings: Affects World and Cast Shadows true|false
- God Rays, Sunbeams, using Volumetric Fog
- Class Dynamic Sky and various blueprints based on it
- Admin Console Weather-, Fog-, Wind Severity and Wind Direction.
It’s not perfect, the old hairphysics bug is disturbing and due to the rotation of the camera a (tearing?) ghost effect is visible on the water, probably an AA issue.
Also white streaks are visible on the left side of the screen and the black wolf fur is a bit blurred and washed out.
Nevertheless, Conan Exiles is still a really beautiful game, especially when you consider that it is based on the old UE4.15 engine and is now six or more years old.
